Top Safety Accreditation for Rainbow Cleaning Ltd

Rainbow Cleaning is one of the largest groups of successful companies to join the leading edge scheme, designed to help industry improve its safety record.

The Camberwell based firm recently received Accreditation from SAFE Contractor, a programme which recognises very high standards of health and safety practises amongst UK contractors.

Employing over 700 people, Rainbow Cleaning is principally involved in the provision of commercial & industrial cleaning.

Specialising primarily in daily office cleaning and the provision of janitorial supplies they have a £5 million turnover. Rainbow Cleaning’s most recent clients have included major players such as Adidas, Talksport and supplying the cleaning to in excess of 40 medical centres and doctors surgeries across London.

The company’s application for SAFE Contractor Accreditation was driven by the need for a uniform standard across the business.

Richard Lee, Rainbow Cleaning’s Sales Director said:

“As a business that’s growing at an exceptional rate, there is a real need for us to have specific accreditation that validates the processes and procedures we currently have in place. I’m extremely happy that this has now been achieved through the Safe Contractor scheme, specifically relating to the numerous and rigorous health and safety policies we employ at Rainbow Cleaning. This can only be a positive step forward for our business, which will be a key contributing factor in assisting us in moving the group onwards and upwards”.

SAFE Contractor Accreditation is expected to enhance the company’s ability to attract new contracts and it’s commitment to safety will be reviewed positively by its insurers when the company’s liability policy is up for renewal.

SAFE Contractor is applicable to most sectors although it is particularly relevant to food manufacturers, property, facilities management, retail and leisure sectors, all of which are big users of contract services.

Darren Hughes, Operation Director for SAFE Contractor said, “Major organisations can no longer run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies”

Under the SAFE Contractors system, businesses undergo a vetting process, which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practices.

Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via a website.

Employer-organisations who sign up for the scheme can access the database, which enables them to vet potential contractors before they even step foot on site. These employers agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only those who have accreditation.

Over 100 major nation-wide businesses, from several key sectors, have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for services such as building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.

Rainbow Cleaning: Beating The Recession

Where
many companies have been looking to scale down operations Rainbow has been
looking to bolster its sales and operations team.

Sales director, Richard Lee
says:

“Having lived and worked through the last recession at the end of the 1980’s,
my abiding memory was that people will always need cleaning at their business
premises. At that time, people where spending a lot of money on office
refurbishments, and their tastes were becoming more expensive. At a stroke
businesses started to cut back and they maintained what they had better, rather
than replaced it. At the onset of this
recession it’s always tempting to use the credit crunch as an excuse for
staying static and not looking forward, however we have remained optimistic and
positive and so far growth has remained constant.

When
speaking to prospective clients we have found that in the past they have been
unwilling to review their current contracts because 'it works ok' now finance
directors are pushing for reviews of all contracts. This has worked
significantly in our favour on a number of levels namely we are able to
demonstrate real savings on the contract price, service improvement and cost
savings on consumables."

Since
January of this year Rainbow Cleaning has won over £700k of new contract
cleaning business.
